BAE Systems has concluded the critical design review of an advanced global positioning system receiver and next-generation semiconductor for the U.S. Space Force. The CDR is part of the $247 million contract that BAE received in 2020 from the agency to design and manufacture new technologies in support of the Military GPS User Equipment Increment 2 Miniature Serial Interface program, the company said Wednesday.

SOS International has received an intelligence technical support services contract from the U.S. Army to provide intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support for its Europe and Africa command. Work will include providing multidiscipline intelligence analysis, ISR planning and integration, intelligence planning, training and exercise support, cyber network defense and systems engineering services, the company said Wednesday.

Precise Systems on Nov. 10 closed the transaction to acquire Excet, a provider of scientific research and engineering services to Department of Defense customers, including the U.S. Army and Navy. Excet's areas of expertise include alternative energy, biotechnology, synthetic biology and chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosives threat assessment, and many of its employees are holders of advanced degrees in various disciplines, Precise Systems said.

Catherine Ni has been appointed vice president of close combat systems at aerospace and defense company Lockheed Martin. Ni said Friday on LinkedIn she had spent roughly the past nine months holding the same position in an acting capacity, during which time she learned many things, had to think outside the box and became connected with "many great individuals across the enterprise."

Earnest Jones, a 25-year public and federal industry veteran, was named chief technology officer of Strategic Data Systems, a provider of information technology, cybersecurity and engineering services to the Department of Defense and other government customers. Jones served as a senior military officer in the U.S. Army and contributed IT and cyber operations mission support during his time at the Pentagon.

During an interview, Saffold discussed the broader applications of unmanned systems in defense, the functions they can perform in critical infrastructure upkeep and environmental surveillance and the role autonomy has in their evolution.

CRDF Global has secured a five-year contract from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief to bolster laboratory systems and services for the timely and high-quality testing of HIV and tuberculosis.
