Kratos Defense and Security Solutions and SES have showcased a virtualized and containerized satellite communications network for the U.S. Army’s Combat Capabilities Development Command. The demonstration seamlessly supported medium Earth orbit satellite operations using SES’ O3b MEO network and Kratos’ fully software-defined satellite ground OpenSpace platform in a "make-before-break" mode, Kratos said Wednesday.

Maxar Intelligence CEO Dan Smoot recently said that he is prioritizing the rollout of the WorldView Legion satellite constellation, which was supposed to begin launching in 2021. Legion is the next-generation imaging platform of Maxar Technologies, the parent organization of Maxar Intelligence, a division that specializes in satellite imagery. The constellation will comprise six satellites in all, with the first two set for launch in the next few weeks.

A Teledyne Technologies business will deliver recoverable and reusable loitering munition drone platforms to the U.S. Marine Corps under a potential $249 million indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract. The company said Monday Teledyne FLIR Defense will support USMC's Organic Precision Fires-Light program, under which the contractor will provide the first 127 loitering munition systems for test and evaluation.

Susanne Hake, general manager of the U.S. government business at Maxar Intelligence, said the company intends to expand this year its network of electro-optical imaging satellites to meet the data requirements of government and commercial customers. According to Hake, Maxar Intelligence intends to triple its capacity to gather 30-centimeter imagery and increase revisit rates to up to 15 times each day by launching two WorldView Legion satellites with a plan to deploy another four spacecraft this year.

Iridium Communications has secured a five-year contract from L3Harris Technologies to deliver timing sync services to U.S. data centers, crucial for safeguarding the Federal Aviation Administration’s infrastructure. Under the contract, Iridium will supply its satellite time and location service to over 36 L3Harris-operated communications network backbone nodes and a similar number of FAA facilities.
