The U.S. Air Force has conducted a static fire test of the stage-3 solid rocket motor of the ground-based intercontinental ballistic missile system being developed by Northrop Grumman as a replacement for the Minuteman III ICBM. The test was conducted at the Arnold Engineering and Development Complex at Arnold Air Force Base in Tennessee and validated the design and performance of the LGM-35A Sentinel's propulsion system, the Air Force Materiel Command said Saturday.

ManTech has secured a five-year, $44 million recompete contract from the U.S. Air Force to deliver software development services for the Secretary of the Air Force’s Office of Studies and Analysis. The U.S. Air Force awarded Boeing's defense, space and security division a contract modification involving the purchase of its 12th communication space vehicle under the Wideband Global Satellite Communication constellation. The changes bring the project's total value to $3 billion, with $439 million obligated to Boeing at the time of the award, the Department of Defense announced Friday.

Viasat has secured a four-year contract from Northrop Grumman to provide a company-built satellite system in support of a U.S. Air Force initiative that seeks to connect commercial space internet services for military users. As part of the deal, Viasat said Thursday it will supply its ViaSat-3 Satellite Communications Network to facilitate high-bandwidth satellite internet connectivity on existing aircraft or ground vehicles for the Defense Experimentation Using Commercial Space Internet Call 003 program.

The U.S. Air Force intends to integrate the Large Aperture variant of Northrop Grumman's LITENING targeting pod onto its inventory of aircraft. Northrop said Tuesday that LITENING is an electro-optical/infrared targeting pod that works to detect, acquire, identify and track targets at extended ranges and that the LA variant offers new video and IR sensors and software that enable faster video processing and imaging at greater distances.
