Tanya Skeen, former acting assistant secretary for acquisition at the Department of Defense, was appointed senior vice president of corporate strategy and development at CACI. The two-decade DOD veteran will now provide CACI with business guidance and recommendations to help advance its capabilities and drive growth.

nLIGHT will continue developing a high energy laser prototype under the second phase of the HEL Scaling Initiative of the Department of Defense's Office of the Under Secretary of Defense, Research & Engineering. The phase two award now has a total value of $171 million after the DOD exercised additional options.

Lance Spencer, client executive vice president for defense at AT&T, leads the company’s efforts to help the Department of Defense modernize its operations with 5G offerings. Spencer recently sat down with ExecutiveBiz for an Executive Spotlight interview, during which he discussed the immense potential of 5G, its ability to transform the way the military uses technology and the challenges that may be faced in its development and deployment. 

The migration between private and commercial 5G wireless communication can deliver numerous capabilities to U.S. warfighters, said Mike Loomis, general manager of Nokia's federal business. In an interview, Loomis discussed the different benefits and challenges of integrating commercial and private 5G networks with the Department of Defense.

ECS will add Microsoft Defender as an endpoint tool to the second version of its Army Endpoint Security Solution as part of capability improvements and upgrades, said Mark Maglin, ECS' vice president of Department of Defense cybersecurity. Maglin discussed in an interview his company's plan to accomplish the five-year, $430 million contract recompete it won from the U.S. Army Cyber Command in September 2022.

The Department of Defense has authorized Idemia Identity and Security North America to provide training and job opportunities in engineering, information technology and other areas to transitioning U.S. military service members. Idemia said Thursday it will serve as an authorized organization under the Skillbridge Program and help U.S. military members find placement within the company based on their experience, availability and capacity to train during their final 180 days of active-duty service.

L3Harris Technologies will modernize and sustain space surveillance systems under two Department of Defense contracts worth up to $134 million. The company said Thursday it was awarded the Ground Based Optical Sensor System and Space Fence Sustainment contracts to support the Maintenance of Space Situational Awareness Integrated Capabilities program of the U.S. Space Force.

KBR has won a $75 million recompete task order to provide the Department of Defense with research and analysis services for a variety of emerging technologies. Issued as part of the DOD Information Analysis Center Multiple Award Contract vehicle, the five-year task order covers critical technology areas of advanced materials, trusted artificial intelligence and renewable energy generation storage.

The Department of Defense seeks to determine the interest and ability of industry partners to provide research, development, test, evaluation, engineering and technical services in support of the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Research & Engineering. The required services will be applied to the 14 technology priorities of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Critical Technologies, according to a sources sought notice posted on SAM.gov.

X-Bow Systems has secured a $64 million contract from the Department of Defense to supply large solid rocket motors to the U.S. Navy and Army. The SRMs will boost the propulsion of the Navy's hypersonic All Up Round system, which is a component of the Navy's Conventional Prompt Strike and the Army's Long Range Hypersonic weapon systems.

The Department of Defense has started seeking information on potential industry sources of a tools portal for commercial publicly available information research capabilities. Responses to the market research effort are due no later than Oct. 31.
