The U.S. Air Force has concluded the initial operational test and evaluation of a BAE Systems-built electronic warfare system for the F-15E Strike Eagle and F-15EX Eagle II aircraft. BAE Systems said Tuesday it supported the service branch’s operational test and evaluation center during the IOT&E effort for the Eagle Passive Active Warning Survivability System as part of the Northern Edge 2023 large force exercise.

Parry Labs will provide an Intel server-class edge computing hardware to General Atomic for use in the modernization of the U.S. Air Force's MQ-9A aircraft, a remotely piloted aircraft built by GA's aeronautical systems business. The U.S. Air Force has released a draft solicitation for a potential 10-year, $12.5 billion contract for support services to modernize, operate and maintain network infrastructure across all Department of the Air Force bases worldwide. The service branch intends to establish a pool of qualified sources to support the multiple-award Base Infrastructure Modernization indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract, according to a presolicitation notice published Thursday.

Viasat has selected Rocket Lab to build and deliver a satellite bus for a flight communications demonstration mission that would showcase the ability of the former's multi-band space-relay capabilities to support low Earth orbit missions. Rocket Lab's spacecraft bus will provide communications, propulsion and attitude control for the flight demonstration scheduled for launch in 2026 as part of Viasat's two contracts under NASA's Communications Services Project worth $80 million in total, Viasat said Thursday.

A subsidiary of Airbus U.S. Space & Defense has opened a new hangar in Mobile, Alabama, dedicated to maintenance, repair and overhaul work on various U.S. military aircraft. Rob Geckle, chairman and CEO of Airbus, said the company has invested between $5 million and $10 million in the construction of the new military aircraft hangar, which adds nearly 18,000 square feet of workspace for Airbus U.S. Military Aircraft, bringing the total area of the company's Mobile site to around 65,000 square feet.

HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division started topside testing of the electromagnetic aircraft launch system on the USS John F. Kennedy aircraft carrier. EMALS is designed to replace the steam catapults on the U.S. Navy's Nimitz-class aircraft carriers, can operate at a speed of more than 150 miles per hour and works to provide expanded operational capability, more accurate end-speed control and higher launch-energy capacity, HII said Wednesday.

Sidus Space has integrated NASA Stennis Space Center's Autonomous Satellite Technology for Resilient Applications engineering unit into its LizzieSat FlatSat small satellite vehicle in preparation for its upcoming launch. The company said Thursday the integration was completed at its facility in Cape Canaveral, Florida, and involved multiple integration and communications tests to verify the ability to load the ASTRA flight software into the engineering unit.

The U.S. Air Force intends to integrate the Large Aperture variant of Northrop Grumman's LITENING targeting pod onto its inventory of aircraft. Northrop said Tuesday that LITENING is an electro-optical/infrared targeting pod that works to detect, acquire, identify and track targets at extended ranges and that the LA variant offers new video and IR sensors and software that enable faster video processing and imaging at greater distances.
