SSC Seeks Satellite-Based Weather Sensing Technologies for DOD Forecasting Needs

The Space Systems Command has issued a request for information as part of a strategy to establish an integrated satellite network with space-based environmental monitoring capabilities that would provide terrestrial and space weather data to meet Department of Defense forecasting needs. The government is working to determine the ability of industry partners to deliver technological capabilities relevant to SBEM environmental parameters articulated under 2012 Joint Requirements Oversight Council Memo 091-12 and 2014 JROCM 092-14, according to the RFI posted Tuesday on SAM.gov.

ULA Eyes Vulcan Centaur Upper Stage Reuse for On-Orbit Missions

United Launch Alliance looks to reuse the upper stages of its Vulcan Centaur heavy-lift launch vehicles by keeping them in orbit, where they could perform other functions apart from the original launch mission. ULA President and CEO Tory Bruno explained in an interview during the Space Symposium conference how Vulcan upper stages, loaded with additional propellant, could work to move other spacecraft in orbit or event defend them against anti-satellite weapons.

General Atomics to Endorse Gray Eagle Variant for Army Recon Aircraft Requirement

Argentina to Acquire Basler BT-67 Aircraft via $143M Foreign Military Sale

A potential foreign military sale of Basler BT-67 aircraft to the government of Argentina has been approved by the U.S. Department of State. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Thursday that the FMS has an estimated cost of $143 million and includes the aircraft themselves, various parts, technical documentation, training equipment and logistics and program support, such as personnel training, technical and engineering services and transportation.

Armis Completes $150M Acquisition of Silk Security

Asset intelligence and cybersecurity company Armis has acquired for $150 million Silk Security, the developer of Silk Platform, which works to provide cyber risk prioritization and remediation. Axellio’s Scott Aken Calls for Changes to Network Traffic Monitoring Amid TLS 1.3 Implementation

Organizations will have to augment their approaches to network traffic monitoring when they implement Transport Layer Security 1.3, according to Scott Aken, the CEO of software company Axellio. Aken explains in an opinion column published Tuesday on Security Magazine that TLS 1.3 "significantly enhances" data encryption but in so doing imposes limits on data stream decryption, making network security monitoring more difficult and potentially obscuring malware and traffic by threat actors.

Maxar Intelligence CEO Dan Smoot recently said that he is prioritizing the rollout of the WorldView Legion satellite constellation, which was supposed to begin launching in 2021. Navy Taps DCS for R&D Work on Advanced ISR Technology

Engineering, programmatic and technical support services provider DCS Corp. has received a cost-plus-fixed-fee contract from the U.S. Navy to address challenges related to naval visible, electro-optic/infrared advanced intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems and technology.
