Lockheed Martin will collaborate with Intel and its newly launched standalone business Altera to build a sensor open systems architecture-based airborne electronic defense platform for the U.S. Navy's MH-60R multi-mission helicopter to support a program of the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering. Intel has unveiled a financial reporting structure as part of its move to a foundry operating model meant to improve transparency, growth and accountability across the business. Intel Foundry is the technology company's newly created operating segment that includes foundry services, foundry manufacturing and supply chain and foundry technology development, the company said Tuesday.

Intel Corporation recently held an event where it launched a new foundry division the company described as “a more sustainable systems foundry business designed for the AI era.” Intel said Wednesday that the same event saw the unveiling of a roadmap outlining process node innovation and evolution targets through 2027 that would help Intel Foundry become the No. 2 foundry by 2030.

Intel could emerge as a top recipient of billions of dollars in Chips Act funding to support the construction of secure facilities meant for manufacturing microchips that will power artificial intelligence, missiles, fighter jets and other advanced weapons systems. Sources said the facilities would be designated as a “secure enclave” and could cost between $3 billion and $4 billion, which would come from manufacturing grants worth $39 billion authorized under the law.

Intel has received a $600 million onshoring grant from the government of Ohio to support the construction of two chip factories in Licking County.
