GE Aerospace landed a potential five-year, $68.1 million cost-sharing contract to participate in NASA's Hybrid Thermally Efficient Core turbofan engine project. The agency announced Friday that GE Aerospace will cover at least half of the cost of HyTEC's Phase 2 Integrated Core Technology Demonstration program for the duration of the contract, which takes effect Feb. 15, 2024.

Lockheed Martin has tested an electronic warfare system designed to equip the U.S. Navy's helicopter fleet with electronic surveillance and attack capabilities against anti-ship missile threats. The Advanced Off-Board Electronic Warfare system demonstrated its ability to perform engagement testing and detect and destroy threats while installed aboard an MH-60R helicopter, Lockheed said Tuesday.

Mitre is working on multiple lines of research to enhance information sharing to support the Federal Aviation Administration's vision to enable an Info-Centric National Airspace System in 2035. Axiom Space is migrating its enterprise information technology infrastructure to Amazon Web Services to provide cloud-based tools and services to its operations, business and engineering teams supporting the development of its commercial space station in low-Earth orbit. Rocket Lab is planning to construct a new production and development complex in Middle River, Maryland, to manufacture advanced composite products for spacecraft and launch vehicles. The company said Friday it will renovate 113,000 square feet of space at the former Lockheed Martin Vertical Launch Building to build the new Space Structures Complex that will house the production of launch vehicle structures, carbon composite spacecraft buses, satellite dispensers and other materials used for launch and space systems.

Frontier Technology Inc. will establish its Operational Research Bridge for Innovation and Technology Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to facilitate secure collaboration and knowledge transfer in the space operations domain. FTI will invest $15 million in the construction of the new 46,000-square-foot secure facility and create 200 job opportunities in advanced visualization, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science and software engineering, the Colorado Springs Chamber & Economic Development Corporation announced Tuesday.

Southwest Research Institute has been awarded a potential six-year, $54.9 million contract to build and operate the QuickSounder spacecraft for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. NASA announced Monday that it granted the firm-fixed-price delivery order to SRI for the vehicle's development, integration, shipment, launch and mission operations and eventual decommissioning.

L3Harris Technologies will modernize and sustain space surveillance systems under two Department of Defense contracts worth up to $134 million. The company said Thursday it was awarded the Ground Based Optical Sensor System and Space Fence Sustainment contracts to support the Maintenance of Space Situational Awareness Integrated Capabilities program of the U.S. Space Force.
