Leidos has awarded a subcontract to Stratolaunch to conduct flight tests in support of the Multiservice Advanced Capability Test Bed program of the Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division. The contract award covers five flights involving Stratolaunch's reusable, autonomous Talon-A hypersonic vehicles and optional payloads, prime contractor Leidos said Tuesday.

Semiconductor and fiber lasers provider nLIGHT will work as a subcontractor to Kord Technologies on a $34.5 million U.S. Army contract for the Directed Energy Maneuver-Short Range Air Defense prototyping effort. DE M-SHORAD aims to install 50kW-class high energy laser weapon systems on Stryker vehicles, improving their defenses against a variety of threats, including unmanned aircraft systems, nLIGHT said Monday.

BlueHalo has secured a contract from the Office of Naval Research and Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division to develop a high-energy laser technology prototype for integration onto the U.S. Marine Corps’ Joint Light Tactical Vehicles. The company said it will adapt its Locust laser weapon platform to equip the JLTVs with laser-powered counter-unmanned aerial systems capabilities that will work to identify, engage and disable drone targets.

The first test version of the U.S. Air Force's T-7A Red Hawk has arrived at Edwards Air Force Base in California where developmental flight testing for the Boeing-built advanced pilot training aircraft will begin. The aircraft, dubbed APT-2, traveled from Boeing's production facility in St. Louis, Missouri, and made stops at air bases in Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arizona to refuel, the defense contractor said Thursday.
