Paul Selva, a retired U.S. Air Force general, and retired space executive David Thompson have been appointed chairman and vice chairman, respectively, of the board of trustees at The Aerospace Corp. Selva succeeds Stephanie O'Sullivan, who concluded her term on the board, while Thompson replaces Selva in the vice chairman role, the nonprofit corporation said Thursday.

GE Aerospace landed a potential five-year, $68.1 million cost-sharing contract to participate in NASA's Hybrid Thermally Efficient Core turbofan engine project. The agency announced Friday that GE Aerospace will cover at least half of the cost of HyTEC's Phase 2 Integrated Core Technology Demonstration program for the duration of the contract, which takes effect Feb. 15, 2024.

Ball Aerospace will manage a concept study for the NASA Explorers Program to understand the magnetism of the sun and how it affects space, Earth and other planets. The company said Tuesday the Chromospheric Magnetism Explorer mission concept would use a near ultraviolet spectropolarimeter to make novel observations of the solar magnetic field in the chromosphere to learn how magnetic energy buildup leads to solar flares and coronal mass ejections.

Retired U.S. Army Gen. Stephen Townsend has been selected as an advisory board member at MAG Aerospace, a provider of command, control, communication, computers, cyber, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance offerings. He brings over 40 years of military experience to the company, having served in leadership positions in platoons, corps and joint task forces, the Fairfax, Virginia-based company announced on Thursday.

Full-spectrum joint domain command and control services provider MAG Aerospace has entered into a partnership with Idaho National Laboratory to secure cyber physical systems like critical infrastructure from cyber threats, with the ultimate aim of enhancing national security. A team composed of L3Harris Technologies, Leidos and MAG Aerospace will compete for a U.S. Army program to develop a fleet of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft to gather operational intelligence against the country’s adversaries. The Defense Contract Management Agency, on behalf of the U.S. Army, accepted the first GE Aerospace-built flight test engine for the Army’s Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft on Sept. 28. The second T901 engine is going through the acceptance process under the Army’s Improved Turbine Engine Program and the service is set to hand over the two engines to two vendors working on two FARA competitive prototypes - Raider X from Lockheed Martin's Sikorsky business and 360 Invictus from Textron's Bell subsidiary - by the end of October.
