General Dynamics’ land systems business has received a delivery order from the U.S. Army to convert an additional 100 M1A1 Abrams main battle tanks to the M1A2 System Enhancement Package Version 3 configuration.
The company said Wednesday the latest configuration works to update the vehicle’s armor, communications and fuel systems.
The order falls under a potential three-year, $2.63 billion contract the Army awarded in late 2017 to modernize up to 786 M1A1 Abrams tanks.
GDLS delivered initial pilot M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams tanks to the Army in October of last year.
Work under the new order will take place at the company’s facilities in Scranton, Pa., and Tallahassee, Fla., and at the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center in Lima, Ohio.
