Rick Ambrose, executive vice president of Lockheed Martin’s space systems business, has been named one of the nominees for the Via Satellite magazine’s 2017 Satellite Executive of the Year award.
Via Satellite said the nomination seeks to acknowledge Ambrose’s ability to advance innovation in the company’s operations, bring new business opportunities and expand the firm’s industry presence.
The magazine noted some of Lockheed’s accomplishments under Ambrose’s leadership such as the launch of the U.S. Air Force’s Space Based Infrared System Geosynchronous Earth Orbit 3 satellite and the Next Space Technologies for Exploration Partnerships contract the company secured from NASA to develop a prototype for a deep-space habitat.
In 2017, the company also kicked off construction work on a $350 million satellite manufacturing facility in Colorado, launched a new line of satellite buses and a partnered with NEC to facilitate analysis of data derived from satellite sensors through the use of the latter’s artificial intelligence software.
