Boeing has made an investment in Fortem Technologies through its ventures arm to help the Salt Lake City, Utah-based company advance the development of radar platforms for unmanned aerial vehicles.
Fortem has developed a radar system, TrueView, that works to help drones detect and avoid other aerial objects and perform package delivery, cargo transport, infrastructure inspections and other logistics operations, Boeing said Thursday.
Signia Venture Partners and Data Collective joined Boeing HorizonX Ventures in the Series A funding round for Fortem.
Fortem CEO Timothy Bean said the company will use the investments to support developments in airspace safety and continue to collaborate with Boeing as the aerospace firm works on autonomous aerial systems.
“Radar technology is a necessary and trusted element as we continue to strengthen autonomy capabilities for a variety of commercial and urban mobility applications,” said Steve Nordlund, a vice president at Boeing HorizonX.
The funding round marks the company’s second investment in unmanned technologies since it launched HorizonX in April 2017.
