NASA has selected Super Micro Computer to help expand the capacity of computing and data analytics systems at the space agency’s Center for Climate Simulation.
Supermicro said Monday it will provide a company-built Rack Scale platform that will offer 1.56 petaflops of additional computing capacity to NCCS.
NCCS is located within the Computational and Information Sciences and Technology Office of Goddard Space Flight Center’s Sciences and Exploration Directorate and supports computing and data analytics functions across NASA’s Earth and space science communities.
Supermicro partnered with CSRA, Motivair and Edge Solutions & Consulting under the augmentation effort dubbed SCU14 with the goal to provide 216 percent higher computing power compared with the previous SCU13 update.
The Rack Scale technology for SCU14 is based on Supermicro’s FatTwin system that features eight server nodes equipped with dual 20-core Intel Xeon Gold processors and Intel solid-state drives each.
