ViaSat has received a potential five-year, $13 million contract to provide manufacturing and engineering support for the U.S. Air Force’s Mini Crypto program.
Mini Crypto is a small cryptographic module that works to safeguard data in various communication devices and allow such devices to authenticate other communication tools, the Defense Department said Monday.
The Air Force said in a FedBizOpps notice the Mini Crypto platform must have a National Security Agency type 1 certification and should be designed for integration with various small form factor devices.
The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center awarded the cost-plus-incentive-fee contract through competitive procurement with seven proposals received.
The company will perform contract work at its facility in Carlsbad, California, through Oct. 30, 2020.
The service branch will obligate $2,253,000Â from fiscal years 2015 and 2016 research and development funds at the time of award.
The contract contains options for full-rate production, low-rate initial production and associated support services, according to DoD.
