Advanced Technology International has received a $77 million contract from the Department of Defense’s Test and Resources Management Center to work on the Fifth Generation Aerial Target prototype project, Aviation Week reported Wednesday.
ATI will act as the manufacturing prime contractor to Sierra Technical Services, which built the 5GAT aerial target prototype that crashed in October 2020 due to a software error.
In April 2022, TRMC moved to revive the program by issuing a solicitation through a U.S. Army contracting office.
The Army Contracting Command-Orlando awarded the prototype project to ATI through an other transaction agreement, according to an award notice published Aug. 4.
Aerial targets are aircraft designed to validate a weapon system’s effectiveness in live fire testing.
The 5GAT program seeks to come up with “game-changing” advancements designed to drive the ability to conduct DOD’s test and evaluation activities and pursue prototypes in support of TRMC’s Central Test and Evaluation Investment Program.
