C-Band Alliance Submits Updated Proposal for Mid-Band Spectrum Clearing Process - top government contractors - best government contracting eventA consortium of satellite operators has proposed obligating up to 200 megahertz of C-band spectrum to support the deployment of 5G terrestrial services in the U.S.

Intelsat said Monday the updated proposal is an 80 percent increase from the C-Band Alliance’s original plan to repurpose a portion of the 3.7K to 4.2K MHz frequency band in the U.S. for 5G wireless applications.

CBA, which consists of Intelsat, SES, Eutelsat and Telesat, aims to clear a part of the C-band spectrum while protecting entities such as public and private media organizations that need 5G services to cater to customers across the U.S.

The modified plan will be filed under CBA’s response to a Federal Communications Commission notice of proposed rulemaking proceeding that was passed in July.

The effort would allow the four companies to introduce new satellite capacity and technologies that will help move customers to different frequencies.
