Boeing to Develop, Update Super Hornet Systems for Navy Acquisition Requirements - top government contractors - best government contracting eventBoeing will produce new avionics and update existing systems for the F/A-18 Super Hornet platform to address the procurement needs of the U.S. Navy, National Defense Magazine reported Friday.

The Navy intends to deliver Kuwait’s request of 28 Super Hornets and has placed an order for the service branch’s 110 block III F/A-18 aircraft scheduled for production by 2020, the report said.

Work for the service life extension of the block II platform and the creation of future Super Hornet systems includes a 10-inch by 19-inch touchscreen cockpit display, the publication noted.

John Keeven, manager of F/A-18 flight simulation at Boeing, said in a media briefing that the company has produced the initial version of the display that will serve as a baseline for the development of the design.

The display is geared to simultaneously facilitate air-to-air and air-to-ground operations and will feature expanded and full-screen layouts and a dismissal function for the projected visuals, detailed the National Defense Industrial Association’s magazine.
