BAE Systems has received a $46.8 million contract modification from the U.S. Navy to update the service branch’s current naval gun systems.
The company said Monday it will deliver four additional Mk 45 Naval Guns with the Mod 4 configuration designed to increase the weapon’s firepower and range capacity.
“Mod 4 updates make the system easier to integrate onto the ship and more adaptable to advanced munitions,” said Joseph Senftle, vice president and general manager of BAE’s weapons systems business.
The gun mount works to help boost the system’s firing energy by 50 percent and employs a digital control system built with a touch-screen interface.
BAE aims to complete Mk 45 Mod 4 conversions at a company facility in Louisville, Kentucky facility by 2021.
The award is a modification to an initial 10-gun contract and brings the contract’s full potential value to $176.8 million.
