The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology seeks public comments on Accenture‘s draft white paper that explores the capture, use and exchange of patient-generated health data.
Accenture said Wednesday its federal services subsidiary created the report as part of a two-year contract with ONC to determine opportunities and challenges related to the capture of PGHD by patients or caregivers as well as the use and sharing of such data in healthcare delivery and research efforts.
Jim Traficant, managing director of federal health at Accenture, said the draft white paper is meant to help ONC develop a policy framework on the safe collection and use of PGHD for healthcare and research.
Accenture selected Validic and TapCloud to run pilot demonstrations that will establish systems and processes to test the implementation of PGHD opportunities and challenges outlined in the report.
Validic collaborates with Sutter Health on a pilot demonstration that uses PGHD gathered from various devices to aid diabetes care and evaluate the required infrastructure and workflows to implement and scale care initiatives.
TapCloud and AMITA Health are in charge of another demonstration project that seeks to connect patients and clinicians outside the care setting to collect biometric data and evaluate patients’ conditions.
Accenture will use results from both programs to develop a final white paper about PGHD.
