Mark Forman, global public sector head at Unisys, has said the adoption of a four-tier architecture could help government agencies facilitate mobility among their staff and change the way they deliver services to citizens.
Forman wrote in a Government Technology article published April 15 that such architecture employs a hybrid model of analog and digital systems.
He said the architecture works to leverage virtualization and cloud platforms as well as consolidate legacy systems and databases into “interoperable modules.â€
He also cited the end-user interface, orchestration layer, business services and data tier as the four components of the four-tier architecture.
Forman noted that the architecture’s data tier approach works to generate insights through combination of data from different silos.
“We have known for more than a decade that combining data across silos and integrating business processes is not only a good way to reduce costs, but also has become necessary for government to perform critical operations,†he added.
