The Space Systems Command has issued a request for information as part of a strategy to establish an integrated satellite network with space-based environmental monitoring capabilities that would provide terrestrial and space weather data to meet Department of Defense forecasting needs. The government is working to determine the ability of industry partners to deliver technological capabilities relevant to SBEM environmental parameters articulated under 2012 Joint Requirements Oversight Council Memo 091-12 and 2014 JROCM 092-14, according to the RFI posted Tuesday on SAM.gov.

Rancher Government Solutions has entered into a strategic alliance and reseller agreement with the defense solutions division of Curtiss-Wright with the aim of bringing Kubernetes and container management technologies to the tactical edge. The two companies said Wednesday that under the partnership, the Harvester hyper-converged infrastructure and the Rancher Multi Cluster Manager will be hosted on PacStar 400-Series tactical communications products.

Planet Labs has conducted a ground demonstration that validated technologies enabling connectivity between low Earth orbit satellites and in-space communication satellites operated by the government solutions business of Telesat and the space and defense business of SES. Planet said Friday the demonstration was part of a subcontract it had received in 2022 from Telesat Government Solutions and SES Space & Defense for NASA's Communications Services Project, which seeks to evaluate the feasibility of using commercial satellite communications to support future NASA missions.
