Lockheed Martin has opened an innovation center in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates to facilitate technical collaboration among industry, academia and government organizations.

The Center for Innovation and Security Solutions is located in Masdar City’s incubator building and aims to build new technologies to address global problems such as climate change and resource scarcity, Lockheed said Monday.

“We look forward to collaborating on innovations, growing technical expertise and contributing to economic development,” Lockheed CEO Marillyn Hewson said at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the facility.

Lockheed has also partnered with clean technology firm Masdar to explore nanomaterials for aircraft fuselage, plastics and water desalination.

The U.S. aerospace and defense company also collaborates with UAE-based universities and nonprofit groups to train future scientists, entrepreneurs and business leaders.
