Jacobs Engineering Group will provide design management services for a two-lane tunnel construction project between Virginia Beach and the Delmarva Peninsula under a contract with the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel Commission.
The company said Tuesday it will lead project development work for the future 23-mile tunnel and associated infrastructure, manage procurement activities and assist in the review of technical requirements for the design-build contract.
The future tunnel will be parallel to one of the immersed tunnels at the channel and aims to provide additional traffic capacity as well as an alternative passageway in case of repairs or incidents at the other tunnel, Jacobs said.
