Boeing has evaluated the safety features of a commercial spacecraft the company is building for NASA‘s human flight missions into low-Earth orbit.
The company said Thursday it conducted the CST-100 hazard analysis to identify possible life-threating risks and ensure that capsule design is safe.
CST-100 would transport up to seven astronauts and cargo to the International Space Station and is designed with a Boeing-made LED lighting system and a wireless connectivity technology.
Boeing says it has also finished reviewing the capsule’s integrated systems that include avionics, propulsion, software, power, landing and docking equipment.
The company plans to launch the spacecraft by 2017 through a NASA-run commercial crew program.
