Aerojet RocketdyneAerojet Rocketdyne has demonstrated a second stage rocket motor in simulated environments for the U.S. Air Force’s Nuclear Weapons Center.

The Large Class 92-inch-diameter solid rocket motor was tested at the Arnold Engineering and Development Complex at Arnold Air Force Base in Tennessee, Aerojet Rocketdyne said Wednesday.

Tyler Evans, Aerojet Rocketdyne vice president of Rocket ShopSM defense advanced programs, said the rocket motor system is intended to help the customer apply existing materials.

The technology features a propellant and a domestic nozzle exit cone material.

Aerojet Rocketdyne applied a domestic carbon fiber to the motor case, which was assembled at General Dynamics’ Lincoln, Neb.-based facility.

Honeywell Aerospace built the thrust vector actuation system and Aerojet Rocketdyne fabricated the motor stage at its Sacramento, Calif.-based site.
