Mike McCalip, vice president of government programs and strategy at Carahsoft Technology, highlighted some of the key takeaways and themes from a technology conference and one of those is the use of generative artificial intelligence in software development as the U.S. Army transitions from hardware to software.
Leonel Garciga, chief information officer of the Army, announced at the TechNet Augusta 2023 conference the service’s plan to release guidance on the use of data on commercial and public platforms to clarify its policy with regard to the use of AI, according to McCalip.
“Overall, officials concurred that the DoD is not looking to become 100% reliant on AI aid but instead maximize AI’s strengths to augment human critical thinking and empower commanders to make data-driven decisions,” McCalip wrote in a blog post published Friday.
Other key themes discussed at the recent conference are the efforts of the Army and the Department of Defense to migrate applications to the cloud and the service’s zero trust implementation.
McCalip noted that Army Cyber Command enumerated at the event seven principles that information technology providers should take into consideration as they deliver new capabilities.
These include rapidly patching software, implementing role-based permissions on development network and assessing all production code for security flaws.
