CPI Aerostructures will support a Wilder Systems-led project to demonstrate to the U.S. Army a manufacturing robot's ability to perform repetitive and complex mixed-stack drilling activities.
CPI Aero said Tuesday it will deliver eight aircraft material coupon stacks such as aluminum, titanium and carbon fiber to Wilder Systems in support of the latter's cooperative research and development agreement with the military branch.
The project aims to validate if Wilder Systems' Agile Manufacturing Robot can provide enhanced throughput and quality than manual approaches.
Douglas McCrosson, president and CEO of CPI Aero, said the partnership will demonstrate the robot in a work cell operated by the company if the program moves to Phase 2.
"We are excited to see where this research leads and how the technology may be leveraged both across current programs and for bid submissions," added McCrosson.
