L3Harris Technologies and Northrop Grumman have received contracts with a cumulative value of $27.8M to perform services in line with the U.S. Air Force’s experimentation efforts on commercial space internet services.
Efforts under both contracts are intended to help USAF develop a capacity that will allow users to communicate with the service branch’s systems through space internet satellite constellations as part of the Defense Experimentation Using Commercial Space Internet project, the Department of Defense said Friday.
Air Force Research Laboratory awarded the contracts via a competitive basis and the military service obligated funding from fiscal years 2019 and 2020 funds.
DoD expects L3Harris to complete contract work by Aug. 31, 2022, while Northrop’s contract will run through Nov. 2021.
