Cubic Provides Satcom Tech to Support Disaster Relief; Mike Twyman Quoted

Cubic’s mission solutions business has deployed new satellite communication antennas and ruggedized connectivity platforms to support nonprofit Help.NGO’s disaster response missions.

Help.NGO used Cubic-made Ground Antenna Transmit and Receive or GATR systems to support global disaster relief efforts, such as those related to Hurricane Dorian, Cubic said Wednesday.

The GATR antenna provided connectivity for response efforts at Great Abaco Island and Marsh Harbor Airport, the Bahamas.

Team Rubicon, an associated nonprofit, used a 1.2-meter GATR antenna to establish a link at an operations base on Great Abaco. The link facilitated coordination for supply and personnel support.

A 2.4-meter GATR antenna also established connectivity at Marsh Harbor Airport to support departures, arrivals, supply deliveries and personnel pickup.

Cubic also provided its truck-installed Vocality RoIP gateway that generated on-the-move internet connectivity at multiple sites within the Bahamas.

“It is vital that first responders and those aiding recovery efforts can quickly access data, video and voice communications to help those devastated by the hurricane,” said Mike Twyman, president at Cubic Mission Solutions.
