CenturyLink has introduced new features on its VMware-based private cloud platform as well as an integrated cloud offering created with the latter and Amazon Web Services.
The company told attendees during VMworld 2019 in San Francisco that the Private Cloud for VMware Cloud on AWS handles software-defined data on the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud and is designed for the enterprise-level management of applications on a hybrid IT environment.
In a separate announcement, CenturyLink said that new features for the Private Cloud on VMC Foundation cover enterprise monitoring, migration support, cybersecurity and compliance, Intel Xeon CPU support and other elements to support distributed computing. The company also expanded deployment of the Private Cloud on VCF offering to more than 2,200 public and private data centers around the world.
Paul Savill, senior vice president for product management at CenturyLink, said the updates are intended to support workloads that require networking capabilities closer to the network edge or “don’t fit cleanly into a public cloud environment.â€
CenturyLink expects Private Cloud for VMC on AWS to be available to select regions later this year.
