Symantec joined a Department of Defense-led program that calls for voluntary sharing of information about cyber threats to the defense industry and measures to avoid a cyber attack.
The company said Monday it will offer a range of technology platforms to help Defense Industrial Base Cybersecurity program participants comply with sensitive federal data protection guidelines from the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
NIST Special Publication 800-171 outlines a set of requirements for defense contractors to safeguard nonfederal information technology systems that store controlled unclassified information.
“The DIB CS program provides an important platform to share threat information and best practices, helping to improve the overall cyber awareness and security posture of all members," said Chris Townsend, vice president of Symantec's federal business.
Symantec maintains a global intelligence network built to collect threat data from 175M endpoints and 123M sensors across on a daily basis.
