Dell has deployed desktop virtualization offerings to two school districts in Texas as part of efforts to refresh their computer workstations and optimize their access to technology while addressing legacy systems and budget constraints.
The Socorro Independent School District and San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District deployed technology such as Dell Wyse Datacenter for Citrix environments equipped with  PowerEdge blade servers and EqualLogic storage arrays, Dell said Monday.
“Virtualized desktop infrastructure has enabled our district to extend access to technology for more students, at a price point that allows us to reinvest in extending learning beyond the classroom with a 1:1 computing initiative in our high school,†said Abe Casillas, chief technology officer at San Felipe Del Rio.
According to Dell, the 1:1 initiative will also use Dell Latitude 3330 to leverage mobile access to instructional materials.
