The Defense Department has asked industry to submit concept papers on exoskeleton-based approaches to increase warfighters’ performance when they perform missions.
DoD is interested in multiple exoskeleton types such as infantry or high mobility, logistics/sustainment/mission support and specialized capability platform, the U.S. Army said in a FedBizOpps notice posted Jan. 29.
Light support, medium lift and heavy lift exoskeletons are intended to help warfighters conduct logistics, mission support and lift operations while minimizing the risk of injuries.
An infrantry-type exoskeleton is designed to augment warfighters’ shooting, movement, communications and defense, according to the notice.
A specialized capability platform functions as a medium mobility exoskeleton to support explosive disposal, situational awareness, lethality and chemical protection missions.
Interested parties can submit concept papers to the Army’s Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center through March 12.
