Lockheed Martin has partnered with Tata Advanced Systems to produce the newest configuration of the F-16 multirole fighter aircraft in India.
The agreement seeks to give India the opportunity to manufacture, operate and export F-16 Block 70 as well as support technology supplier jobs in the U.S. and create new manufacturing jobs in India, Lockheed said Monday.
F-16 Block 70 is designed to meet the Indian air force’s need for single-engine fighters.
Orlando Carvalho, executive vice president of Lockheed’s aeronautics business, said the partnership aims to strengthen the F-16 offer through the Make in India program.
Tata also manufactures airframe components for the Lockheed-built C-130J airlifter and the S-92 helicopter produced by the latter’s Sikorsky subsidiary.
