Boeing, General Atomics and Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman have received one-year contract modifications to carry out additional risk reduction activities for the U.S. Navy‘s future unmanned carrier aviation air system.
The Defense Department said Thursday that Northrop will refine concepts and develop trade space ahead of the engineering and manufacturing development phase of the MQ-25 UCAAS program under a $24.8 million modification.
The Navy also awarded a $19.1 million modification to Boeing, $18.9 million to Lockheed and another $18.7 million to General Atomics to perform similar work under the program, DoD noted.
All four companies initially secured nearly $167 million in cost-plus-fixed-fee contracts last year to support MQ-25 system risk reduction efforts.
Work under the modifications will occur through September 2018.
The U.S. Air Force renamed the Navy’s Carrier Based Aerial Refueling System as MQ-25A Stingray last year to emphasize the proposed system’s multimission functionalities.
