Royal Philips has partnered with the United Nations Population Fund to launch a second center in Kenya that will work to mitigate newborn and maternal mortality incidents through community development programs and primary healthcare services.
Philips said Thursday the community life center in Mandera County, Kenya, will turn a health facility into a community center that will provide technology tools for use in primary care efforts, social activities and entrepreneurship programs.
Among the technology platforms to be installed at the CLC include LED lighting systems, solar power, healthcare and laboratory equipment and information technology systems for patient data management and storage.
JJ van Dongen, CEO of Philips Africa, said the company will work to provide primary healthcare services to approximately 40,000 women and children in Mandera through CLC as part of its commitment to UNFPA’s Every Woman Every Child program.
The company expects the first phase of the CLC project to conclude this year.
Philips launched Kenya’s first CLC in Kiambu County in 2014.
