Iridium Communications has launched a portable satellite communication device that can be paired with smartphones, laptops and tablets to make calls, use office or chat applications and transmit emails, photos and other data.
Based on the Iridium Certus technology, the Iridium GO! exec can allow multiple users to wirelessly link their smart devices to the internet and comes with a built-in speakerphone that can enable users to make phone calls, the company said Tuesday.
“When we launched the Iridium GO! nine years ago, our vision was to allow anyone with a smartphone to stay connected when they were off the grid,” Iridium CEO Matt Desch said in a statement published Tuesday.
“We’ve now turbocharged that capability with the Iridium GO! exec. There’s nothing like this device for businesses, governments or consumers that want to stay productive beyond terrestrial coverage,” added Desch, an inductee into Executive Mosaic’s 2023 Wash100.
The touchscreen-enabled Iridium GO! exec has a USB-C power output that could be used to charge a tablet or smartphone and an application manager that could allow users to set data and time limits and prioritize connections.
