BAE Systems has flown an electronic warfare aircraft equipped with its Small Adaptive Bank of Electronic Resources system to test SABER's potential to provide software updates to the EC-37B Compass Call platform.
The company said Monday it worked with the U.S. Air Force to demonstrate the technology over 11 EC-130H EW aircraft flights at Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona.
SABER uses software-defined radios and is meant to serve as the foundation of Compass Call's operating system and to allow the aircraft to adopt new applications and updates.
"SABER allows flexibility to update systems without significant physical reconfiguration,” said Pam Potter, director of electronic attack solutions at BAE Systems.
The BAE-USAF team will continue to test SABER's engagement capacity, rapid integration and dynamic resource sharing throughout the year. Testing will also assess how well SABER can operate multiple additional applications.
BAE Systems' Hudson, New Hampshire-based facility houses SABER's development activities.
