TYSONS CORNER, VA, March 4, 2020 — Iridium Communications (Nasdaq: IRDM) has released an updated version of its satellite service intended to provide L-band broadband connectivity for global maritime communications, ExecutiveGov reported Thursday.
Certus 700 offers download and upload speeds of up to 704 kilobytes per second, the company said Thursday. The initial version of the service allowed a transmission speed of up to 352kbps when it was released last year.
The company has seen an increased adoption of its Certus offering within the maritime, land mobile and connected vehicle sectors.
"As we see this increasing adoption, we also look ahead to our coming Iridium Certus midband class of devices currently in development," said Matt Desch, Iridium CEO and a 2020 Wash100 winner. He added the upcoming products have the potential to support autonomous platforms, remote sensors and satellite-powered personal communications systems.
