Rob Davies, executive vice president of operations at ViON and a previous Wash100 award winner, wrote in a GCN article published Tuesday that adopting an infrastructure-as-a-service model could help federal agencies upgrade to a flexible and secure infrastructure and meet modernization requirements.

Davies said the IaaS model could enable agencies to develop a strategic cloud framework that addresses their unique needs. “IaaS can support multicloud initiatives by allowing agencies to auto-deploy applications with the proper configurations on the correct cloud platforms,” he added.

He said transitioning to the IaaS framework can be implemented by agencies in a "modular fashion." "Administrators can develop an interim upgrade strategy for critical legacy applications while they work on creating a long-term migration plan that will benefit their agencies over the next several years," he noted.

With the IaaS model, Davies said agencies could generate savings and optimize legacy applications while advancing innovation. “They can create an ideal environment upon which they can leverage modern technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning and more,” he added.
