Lockheed Martin and Ball Aerospace have landed $3.6 million and $2.3 million contracts, respectively, to build path-agnostic communications capacities through commercial space internet systems for the U.S. Air Force.
According to a FedBizOpps notice posted Thursday, the Air Force aims to develop a technology that uses multiple commercial space constellations to establish communications with military systems. USAF noted it intends to incorporate space internet features on ground vehicles, naval vessels, portable communication tools and aircraft systems.
In addition, the service branch looks to facilitate space internet connectivity with the use of radios, modems and antennas. Contract work has an initial schedule of 30 months along with an additional three-month period for the creation of the final report.
