BAE Systems and Raytheon have won separate cost-plus-fixed-fee contracts to help the Air Force Research Laboratory develop radio frequency components and subsystems with an embedded complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor technology.
The U.S. Air Force awarded a $10.9M contract to Raytheon to build RF electronics under the Technologies for the Mixed-mode Ultra Scaled Integrated Circuits program and an $8.1M contract to BAE to support both the T-MUSIC and Disruptive SiGe Circuits fabricated Onshore initiatives, the Department of Defense said Monday.
T-MUSIC seeks to integrate advanced CMOS and silicon-germanium materials to facilitate “ultra-wide bandwidth, high spurious free dynamic range and fine data converter resolution with high effective number of bits beyond current state-of-the-art,” DoD noted.
The DiSCO effort looks to develop components and subsystems for Department of Defense use and employ these elements to demonstrate technology resulting from the first program. BAE’s contract includes an option phase for the development of a direct digital synthesis approach for transmitters.
AFLR received 18 offers for the projects via a competitive bidding process. The service branch initially allocated $1.3M on Raytheon’s award and $364,723 on BAE’s award. The Pentagon expects contract services to conclude in December 2023.
