Numerica has been awarded a contract to deliver satellite tracking services and space situational awareness data to the U.S. Air Force.
The company said Friday it will provide the Air Force Research Laboratory with a data feed of information from a global telescope network to support the service branch’s operations and research-and-development efforts in the space domain.
The Numerica Telescope Network uses optical sensors installed across the globe and provides geostationary orbit coverage during nighttime.
Todd Brost, director of special programs at Numerica, said that NTN could help increase detection of space objects and the company seeks to demonstrate how data could aid understanding of contested space environments.
AFRL worked with the Defense Innovation Unit and used a source selection approach, called Commercial Solutions Opening, to select the contractor.
The NTN data feed will be available through March 2020.
