Rand Corp. has developed a tool set based on predictive technology designed to help the U.S. Army forecast trends and achieve its recruitment goals, National Defense Magazine reported Tuesday.
“We built them a suite of tools, one of which is a forecasting model to determine whether or not the recruiting environment was going to be particularly difficult,†said Jeffrey Wenger, senior policy researcher at Rand.
He noted that the Army’s areas of operation, the status of the U.S. economy and unemployment rates are some of the factors that impact enlistment figures.
The Army needs to launch constant recruitment efforts in order to maintain and replace the service’s capabilities, according to Wenger.
In 2018, the service branch failed to achieve its 76,500 recruitment goal and was only able to enlist 70K recruits.
