Airbus’ defense business has begun its search for new partners to expand its footprint in the U.S. space market, Reuters reported Wednesday.

Dirk Hoke, CEO of Airbus’ defense and space business, said at the Paris Air Show the company could manufacture components for its European Support Module in the U.S. if the platform is modified to support lunar missions.

Rick Ambrose, head of space business at Lockheed Martin and a 2019 Wash100 winner, told the publication the company and Airbus started preliminary talks about a plan to adapt the module for use in sending humans to the moon and no decisions had been reached.

“Getting to the moon by 2024 means … we’re going to have to reuse everything we can reuse,” Ambrose said.
