A Government Business Council report says only 22 percent of federal government leaders said their organizations are in the process of adopting artificial intelligence, Nextgov reported Monday.
GBC partnered with ViON on the study, which was underwritten by Dell EMC and based on an online survey of 668 federal, civilian and military agency leaders and decision makers conducted in February and March.
The respondents cited data analytics/data science, financial management and cybersecurity as the top AI priorities for agencies.
They also identified organizational resource constraints, lack of direction from leadership and lack of technology supporting AI as the biggest limitations facing their agencies when it comes to AI implementation.
Sixty percent of respondents claimed their organizations are behind other agencies in AI adoption and majority of them said they think the leadership within their organizations is either not very aligned or not at all aligned with their group’s AI needs.
“This research aligns with a powerful trend in our industry that favors fewer boundaries and more flexibility across the IT environment in order to support growing technologies like AI and analytics,†Rob Davies, executive vice president of operations at ViON, said in a statement published Monday.
The report also showed that 25 percent of respondents said AI implementation “has been more or much more challenging than expected.â€
