Northrop Grumman has performed a demonstration of its mine hunting system on an unmanned surface vehicle during the Australian navy’s Autonomous Warrior 2018 exercise.
The company said Monday its AQS-24B system installed on the mine hunting unmanned surface vessel reduced time spent for mine clearance, delivered accurate undersea detection, and kept sailors away from the minefield.
The system leverages an optical laser line sensor and a high-speed synthetic aperture sonar to scan maximum ranges on a single scan and delivers real-time analysis to aid mine warfare troops.
Operators controlled the MHU vehicle from remote locations with situational awareness access via L3 ASV‘s ASView unmanned control system.
The exercise took place in Jervis Bay, Australia.
