Dan Jablonsky, president of DigitalGlobe, has said the National Reconnaissance Office‘s move to extend a satellite imagery services contract with the company can serve as evidence that the government favors “continuity” amid an influx of entrants into the industry, SpaceNews reported Wednesday.
DigitalGlobe, a Maxar Technologies business, received a potential $900M contract extension to provide commercial imagery to federal agencies through August 2023 under the EnhancedView Follow-On contract NRO awarded in September after a transition of responsibility to that office from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.
“What we’re seeing with this contract is that even as disruption happens, high quality data and information is essential to make decisions on rapid timelines and in the environment you need to make them,†Jablonsky told SpaceNews in an interview.
“It shows the importance of continuity,” he added.
DigitalGlobe also received separate contracts to build a Geospatial Cloud Analytics Hub for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and a Geospatial Big Data platform for NASA.
