A Viasat-made multi-network, multi-mode antenna has completed the D0-160G certification process with the Federal Aviation Administration and C-17 modified airworthiness certification criteria testing with the Air Force Materiel Command.
The Ku-/Ka-band Global Mobile Antenna 5560-101 demonstrated its ability to support situational awareness, en-route mission planning and other applications through the use of in-flight broadband connectivity, the company said Monday.
The DO-160G certification allows for the antenna to be used with a number of aircraft in the U.S. military, foreign military sales programs and special parties.
Meanwhile, the C-17 MACC tests determine an antenna’s aptitude for use with C-17 units in the U.S. Air Force and FMS programs.
Viasat is working to report the C-17 MACC test results for official review.
The GMA 5560-101 is built to provide adaptive architecture and satellite-agnostic communications for medium and wide body aircraft.
